FALL/WINTER EVENTS

PUB THEOLOGY (age 21+)

First Tuesday of the month!
Non-Covid Location: Bak Bar, Northville  (Poole’s Tavern Annex) During Social distancing, visit https://www.fumcnorthville.org/young-adult-post/ for current plans.
People have been gathering in pubs and public spaces for ages, talking about life, philosophy, faith, and deep questions of meaning. Increasingly, people all over are rediscovering the pub as a safe, open space where they can explore and express their own doubts and questions, learn from others, and engage people of varying religious traditions. In our increasingly fractured society, these spaces are not only welcome but needed.  The format is simple: beverages, conversation, and God.  – Come bring your questions, your curiosity, and pull up a chair. You’ll be able to share your own wrestlings and thoughts while learning something new along the way, and hey— there’s food and beverages to enjoy!

FAITH JOURNEY SERIES (age 18+)

Faith does not happen overnight. It’s a journey. From birth to death we’re growing in faith. There are ups and downs — and sometimes long flat stretches where we seem to be stalled in our journey. But little by little, we can grow in our understanding and deepen our relationship with God. We hope you will consider joining us on these faith-building adventures! Each event has a different fellowship adventure theme and a short devotional to tie it all together. With multiple opportunities throughout the year, you are sure to find one that works for you. Friends age 18 and over are invited too!

To sign up for future events, contact Tracy Ortlieb: tortlieb@fumcnorthville.org.

Motown 2020: A multi gen three day mission in Detroit to partner with local organizations targeting long term improvements and immediate relief.
Mission Quest 2019: Thirteen young adults served at Greensky Hill Indian UMC for our July mission trip!

SUMMARY OF PAST FAITH JOURNEYS

  • “Serve it up” 7/2018: Traveling into Detroit we worked with three interns from our church who were committed to the efforts in Detroit. Being the hands and feet of Christ is a growing experience and serving others is a true joy.
  • “Cook it up” 7/2018: We got together in our beautiful commercial kitchen and cooked up our faith and a delicious meal of burrito bowls for hungry volunteers working at the UMC Motown service project in Detroit.
  • “Bat it up” 6/2018: Detroit Tigers game in fellowship with our church family! So fun!
  • “Downtown Joy Adventure” 8/2017: Finding JOY together in the simple things from our youth, and nurturing our spirits, we ventured on a walk to historic Northville where we enjoyed frozen treats at local businesses and played the oversized games at the town square. This adventure even appealed to those who prefer concrete under their feet!
  • “River Retreat” 7/2017: A paddle, swim and fire pit adventure at Heavner’s Canoe Rental in Milford, MI. A wonderful time on and in the water, great fellowship and a delicious dinner and dessert cooked over the fire offered a real get away from the everyday!
  • “Into the Woods 5/2017: A journey, a hunt and a little bit more! We went offsite to Maybury State Park for this young adult fellowship event. Pizza and a hike brought us together for some connecting with one another and nature.
  • 2019 May Fire Pit: Fellowship and Planning events, June– Saturday in the D, service/mission work in Detroit! , July Bike it or Hike itAug Northern Michigan adventure!
