Noah Lunch Assembly and Food Collection:
The vision of Noah is to be an anchor of hope leading the Detroit community in ending homelessness. We gather in the church kitchen several times a year to support “Noah at Central” with meal preparation and service.
How you can “DO GOOD” – Join us in collecting supplies, preparing and packing lunches to transport and serve to folks in need in Detroit.
Homeless Hospitality Host Church:
Each spring FUMC houses and feeds 50-75 individuals from the city of Detroit through the rotating homeless shelter, part of Cass Community Services.
How you can “DO GOOD” – We invite you to cook, serve, engage, greet, donate, welcome and assist unhoused guests for a week of shelter, meals and community.
National and Global Disaster Relief:
FUMC partners with the Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC) in Springfield, Illinois by sending volunteers to work at the center to pack and prepare disaster relief supplies nationally and globally. MMDC thrives because of a constant stream of individuals and groups who choose to volunteer to come and serve.
How you can “DO GOOD” – Packaging, sewing, bike repair, carpentry, sorting and assembling are just some of the tasks accomplished on this five-day trip.
Community Meditation Garden:
“The Path:” The community is welcome to enjoy our outdoor garden path. Meditate, pray, journal, read, contemplate, convene or picnic @ The Path. Beautiful, lush garden areas, a gentle babbling water feature complete with bench for the serenity you seek awaits. Bring a friend or explore alone: unplug, stroll, wander or sit on a bench and breathe in the quiet. Access The Path from the upper (Sanctuary) parking lot.
How you can “DO GOOD” – Come pull weeds, plant flowers, prune, dig and create beauty for you and others to enjoy.
Northville First Care Childcare Center (NFC) –
The NFC ministry of FUMC embraces the most valuable treasures in our community…our children. Affordable, high standard childcare nestled in the Northville town limits offers quality Christian based education with open doors for all children.
How you can “DO GOOD” – We’d love to have all qualified teachers and caregivers work at Northville First Care! The more staff we have the more families in the community we can serve. Recommend NFC to those seeking childcare in the community.
Detroit Urban Renewal: “Saturdays in the D”
On select Saturdays throughout the year, FUMC leads a group of multigenerational volunteers in working with various Detroit non-profits. We call it “Saturdays in the D.” Opportunities include painting garages for seniors, refurbishing buildings, rebuilding-repairing-renewing community spaces and homes, weeding gardens, cleaning after flooding and “Doing Good” wherever there is a need.
How you can “DO GOOD” – You and your family can join a team of volunteers to do this engaging work.
Pub Theology:
Our young adults host Pub Theology on the first Tuesday of the month at rotating locations! – People have been gathering in pubs and public spaces for ages, talking about life, philosophy, faith, and deep questions of meaning. The format is simple: beverages, conversation, and God. Each meeting local location is provided to the email group. (restaurants & parks)
How you can “DO GOOD” – Join us! Connecting, listening and communicating about real and important life questions makes the world a better, more unified place for all of us. The fact that it’s FUN is a bonus!
Community Vacation Bible School:
The whole town is invited to volunteer, participate, sing, create, learn and play for a week in August at FUMC Northville’s annual Vacation Bible School…VBS! Participants range from preschool (potty trained) to 5th grade.
How you can “DO GOOD” – Encourage your kids and others to attend this great week. Sign up to volunteer, donate items and decorate the building! VBS is always a great community event for all who attend!
Thanksgiving Community Meal:
On Thanksgiving Day 2024, FUMC will host our second Community Thanksgiving dinner. The event is intentionally set on the holiday because that is the day where all across America families and friends sit down to share a meal, good company and the festive joy of the holiday season. In our community there are those with no plans for Thanksgiving. And in our community, there are those who might not have the means to enjoy a full thanksgiving feast. In our community there are those who do have the means and the time and the spirit and the willingness to serve and to welcome and to share a meal with each other.
How you can “DO GOOD” – Volunteer to cook, donate, set tables, greet guests and join us!
