When will we return to in-person worship?!  The answer in short is: as soon as we can safely do so.

The State of Michigan remains in Phase 4 of Governor Whitmer’s Plan to Reopen the State in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. Phase 4 requires social distancing, the wearing of face coverings at indoor gatherings, and limits indoor gatherings to 10 or fewer people. Phase 5 only allows for 50 people to gather indoors.

Fifty percent of you who responded to our Return to Worship Survey said you would not feel comfortable returning to worship right away. A full 58% of you said you prefer to continue online worship for several weeks after restrictions against public gatherings are lifted. And 52% want to see a decrease in coronavirus cases in our area.

This week we have seen an increase of coronavirus cases in our state and throughout the country. We have also seen reports on the ramifications of large indoor gatherings coupled with poor choices. We want to ensure the safety of our congregation as well as do our part so that the virus does not gain a new foothold in our community.

At this time we do not expect to return to in-person worship no sooner than August. When the state moves to Phase 5, we will reassess our plans again. We appreciate your patience and encourage you to continue to join us for our online worship experience at www.fumcnorthville.org.
